Our Mission

Mission Statement.png

We are here to provide information to the Native Hawaiian community and strengthen the Lāhui through the Helu Kanaka 2020 (2020 Census).

We, as Kanaka maoli, have a tumultuous history with the United States. From the illegal overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani to today’s lack of political representation, Hawaiians have faced oppression, cultural erasure, and desecration of our most sacred sites.

However, these injustices will only be further exaggerated if Hawaiians do not complete the census.

Billions of federal dollars are allocated based solely off of population counts from the census. This means that the more Hawaiians who are counted, the more benefits and money we will receive in our communities.

E ola ka lāhui Hawaiʻi. The Hawaiian Nation will live.

We are here to show our community that the census is an opportunity to work within the system and make our voices heard. This is our chance to get governmental support that we deserve in order to improve our community and work towards a better future.

We also want everyone to know that the census is safe to complete. The census does not record your social security number, citizenship status, bank account, or credit card numbers, and you will not be asked for money or donations. No one can use your answers against you. A Trust and Safety Team has been established to ensure that your information remains confidential.

Although our efforts are directed towards the Native Hawaiian community, we welcome people of all identities. Every person counts, and we encourage all to learn and share this information.

We’d like to give our thanks and appreciation to the Center for Native American Youth for empowering us to make a difference in our community.
